Last updated on Wednesday, February 4, 2009

(BEDFORD) - Charges have been upgraded in the case of last week’s throat slashing at a Bedford bar.

47-year-old Anthony Banks of Bedford was originally charged with attempted voluntary manslaughter, a Class-B felony, when he was arrested for allegedly assaulting 43-year-old David Matthews of Bedford at Bandana's Bar and Grill on Bedford's 5th Street.

However, charges have been upgraded by the Lawrence County Prosecutor's Office to attempted murder, a Class-A felony, along with a second Class-C charge of battery with a deadly weapon.

Banks remains held in the Lawrence County jail. Matthews' condition is unknown, but he was transferred to Bloomington Hospital.
