Three Weekend Accidents Injure Total Of Ten People

Last updated on Monday, January 12, 2009

(BEDFORD) - Several accidents this weekend caused injury to a number of people.

Friday evening just before 7:00pm, Lawrence County police reports say 33-year-old Robert Cottrell and his family were waiting to turn left from US-50 onto Stars Boulevard when 32-year-old Wendy Stancombe came up from behind, and rear ended their vehicle, reportedly, without hitting the brakes.

Stancombe, Cottrell and Cottrell's 3 passengers all complained of various injuries.

Then, early Sunday morning, 19-year-old Brian Jones of Bedford was headed east on US-50 when a deer got into his path, causing him to duck off the road, lose control, flip his jeep onto its top and slide into a small group of trees.

Jones suffered a contusion to his head.

Then, Sunday evening, 35-year-old Elvadean Bickers of Springville was parked, facing the wrong way to grab some firewood on Springville Harrodsburg Road, and when she tried to back out of the way of an oncoming car, they struck her, injuring all 3 people in that car.

A total of 3 citations were issued this weekend from these incidents.
