Police Affidavit: Teen Brothers Admit Role In Brown County Murder

Last updated on Monday, January 12, 2009

(NASHVILLE) - Two teenage brothers have been charged with the murder of Richard “Dude” Voland and the shooting assault of his wife Mary in northwest Brown County from last November.

17-year-old Bennie Reed currently stands charged with murder, attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, attempted robbery resulting in serious injury, burglary, and 2 counts each of aggravated battery, battery with a deadly weapon, and theft.

His 13-year-old brother Blade is also facing the same preliminary charges; however, he faces them in the juvenile system.

Police affidavits say the Reed brothers admitted to the crimes during the process of the investigation.

Bennie Reed reportedly told officers that he wasn't sure why they went to the Voland home in the first place since they were intoxicated at the time, but believes it might have been to steal liquor.

The older brother has a preliminary trial date set for April 15th.

The younger Reed faces a detention hearing today, and may be waived into adult court.
