Owen County Teens Plead To Battery Charges, But Victim Died

Last updated on Tuesday, January 6, 2009

(SPENCER) - Two Owen County teens have pleaded guilty to aggravated battery charges from a beating that occurred on New Year’s Day, but those charges will most likely be upgraded after the victim has died.

WRTV 6News in Indianapolis reports 18-year-old Travis Raber and 19-year-old Matthew Walker were arrested after they allegedly kicked and beat 31-year-old Richard Pursel of Cataract outside an Owen County apartment complex early New Year's Day.

Pursel suffered severe head injuries and was taken to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis where he died Sunday.

6News reports Raber and Walker pled guilty to the aggravated battery charge yesterday at their initial hearing.
