McRobbie Orders Administrators To Cut Out $4.9M From IU Spending

Last updated on Thursday, January 8, 2009

(BLOOMINGTON) - Indiana University President Michael McRobbie has ordered another round of spending cuts for the IU system.

According to a release sent out by the university, all vice presidents, chancellors and deans have been ordered to reduce spending plans by a total of $4.9 million through the rest of the year.

This coming after the state's budget officials cut the IU budget by 1%, or $4.9 million. McRobbie says that school administrators should treat this as a one-time cut and not a permanent reduction, however, he also cautioned his crew that he can't guarantee all will return to normal for the 2009-2010 year.

Spending cuts are looking to take the form, most likely, of holds on hiring, reduction of equipment purchases and travel plans.
