Fiery Wreck Sends Three To Area Hospitals

Last updated on Tuesday, January 27, 2009

(LOOGOOTEE) - A fiery wreck near Loogootee’s Bogg’s Lake yesterday morning sent three people to the hospital.

State Police Jasper say a speeding Dodge van driven by 19-year-old Simon Ringwald of Loogootee rear ended a Pontiac van driven by 36-year-old Teresa Swartzentruber of Loogootee on IN-231, and then glanced off, hitting a compact pickup driven by 57-year-old Larry Walton of Loogootee head-on.

After striking the pickup, Ringwald's van caught fire.

State Police Jasper Sgt. Chad Dick says it's fortunate that all drivers had their seat belts on, since they minimized injuries and allowed Ringwald to get out before his van went completely up in flames.

All three were taken to area hospitals complaining of either neck or back pain.
