(BLOOMINGTON) - General Electric says recent federal tax credits will allow it to keep its Bloomington refrigerator plant open beyond its projected closing next year.
The plant has made refrigerators since 1967 but has struggled with rising costs for material and labor and declining consumer demand.
The plant was planned to close in the first quarter of 2010, but a GE spokesperson says that the tax credits will keep the company open indefinitely.
The Bloomington plant employs more than 700 people.
