Bedford Woman, Young Daughters Okay After Sliding Car Into Pond

Last updated on Thursday, January 8, 2009

(BEDFORD) - A Bedford woman and her two young children are safe after slippery roads sent her vehicle sliding through a fence and into a Leesville pond.

Lawrence County police reports say 26-year-old Kortni Peek of Bedford was heading west on Middle Leesville Road when she approached a curve about a mile west of Standish Steel Road, slid through it, ran through a fence and ended up with her car almost completely submerged in the icy water.

Her infant daughter Maggie and her 2-year-old daughter Ella were with her, and peek had to hold on to them as she swam out of the vehicle and to safety.

Peek called for help from a nearby homeowner's phone and was eventually able to take the kids to get checked over by a pediatrician.

The report says all 3 people in the car came out little worse for the wear.
