Bedford Much Colder Than Anchorage, Alaska Today

Last updated on Thursday, January 15, 2009

(UNDATED) - It’s a frigid one out there today. The freezing weather throughout the Midwest has been closing schools, delaying others, and is now working on after-school athletics.

At Mitchell Junior High, the girls' basketball coach cancelled their basketball game against Orleans for 7th and 8th grade players by late this morning.

Here in Bedford, Police Chief Dennis Parsley tells WBIW News his officers certainly don't have the day off, and are having to take extra precautionary measures to keep themselves warm.

As of 11:00am this morning, wind chills in most of the listening area were still in the negative teens. But, in parts of Iowa, Minnesota and North Dakota, they're between 40 and 50 below zero with wind chill.

And if that doesn't blow your mind, this might: the forecasted high temperature today in Anchorage, Alaska was in the mid 40s...above zero.
