(BLOOMINGTON) - A trustee in Monroe County had some harsh words for a homeless shelter last week, and now, he says he's sorry.

The Bloomington Herald Times reports Monroe County's Perry Township Trustee Dan Combs stated early last week that he wasn't happy that the Shalom Center, an overflow homeless shelter at Trinity Episcopal Church, wouldn't be a dry shelter like Martha's House, also in Bloomington.

Martha's House does breath testing of all its occupants, but the Shalom Center doesn't plan to. Combs said the shalom center could turn into a similar shelter in Seattle, Washington that had to be shut down due to health issues, and characterized the center's gain of funding as a power grab.

Combs apologized for his remarks Friday, saying he shouldn't have questioned the center's motives, and officials at the center have accepted the apology.
