(BLOOMINGTON) - The current recession doesn’t appear to be sparing Indiana University.
Usually, institutions of higher learning benefit from dips in economic activity, usually because those who find themselves out of work have a tendency to go back to school to retrain and find another job or career, but that may not be so.
IU has announced an increase in room and board rates for the 2009-2010 academic year of around 5.7%.
On top of that, IU President Michael McRobbie has recommended freezing salaries for senior administrators.
McRobbie says the freeze will apply to between 300 and 400 employees and save the university system around $2 million for the 2009-2010 year.
