(UNDATED) - Roads all over Indiana resembled long, narrow ice rinks Tuesday after ice storms pummeled the area.
The worst hit areas stretched from Indiana University to Purdue University, and ice snarled traffic and closed roads everywhere in between.
Around 1:30 Tuesday afternoon, there were at least 5 wrecked vehicles, plus a couple more slide-offs, just on IN-37 between Bedford and Bloomington, and the further north you went, the worse it got.
By around 7:00pm, state police in Bloomington were reporting that the trip between Bloomington and Martinsville northbound would take an extra 2 to 3 hours.
Ice in Greene County caused law enforcement there to respond to numerous accidents, sections of Interstates 69 and 70 were closed as was a major section of I-465 in Indy between Michigan and Meridian.
IN-42 and IN-142 in Morgan County was a long sheet of ice, and officials in Putnam County eventually declared a Level 2 Emergency, restricting travel to authorized and emergency use only.
