Two Kentuckians Jailed After Bedford Child Custody Dispute

Last updated on Monday, November 10, 2008

(BEDFORD) - Two Kentuckians are behind bars after a child custody dispute that wound up with an alleged home invasion and battery.

Bedford Police Assistant Chief Dan Kirk tells WBIW News 23-year-old Sumer Strange, along with her friend, 35-year-old Larry Hawkins, both of Turners Station, Kentucky, arrived at the H Street home of Strange's soon-to-be ex-husband, 23-year-old Eric Strange Saturday night.

Kirk says Sumer Strange reportedly blew past another woman in the home, shoved Eric Strange into a closet door, and grabbed 3-year-old Eric Strange, Jr., and left the home. She was followed by Hawkins who approached Eric Strange, who, by then, was holding 1-year-old Hunter Strange in his arms.

Hawkins allegedly tried to grab Hunter from strange, strangled the man, and then took the child and ran.

Police later caught up with the two near IN-58 and IN-37, recovered the children and arrested strange and Hawkins.

Both were taken to the Lawrence County jail on charges including battery in front of a child, residential entry and others.

Of the two children, only Hunter suffered any injuries, those being minor and to her arm from the earlier struggle.
