(SEYMOUR) - The between the recession and changes in the property tax laws, local municipalities are facing a major hurt on their budgets.
Bedford and Mitchell have started charging for trash pickup in order to shore up cash reserves.
And now the City of Seymour is taking their own measures. The Seymour Tribune reports the city will increase its overall tax rate in a Monday night meeting.
The paper reports the city stands to lose more than $660,000 dollars next year due to the property tax reform bill alone.
As a result, the city decided to bump municipal property taxes up from $0.80 cents to $1.07 per $100 of taxable property, hitting the city's maximum levy.
