(BLOOMINGTON) - It's the beginning of the holiday season with Thanksgiving coming the day after tomorrow, which means it's time to study oddball statistics related to our ritual gorging of ourselves on the last Thursday in November.

The Indiana University Kelley School of Business reports that Indiana is 7th in the nation for turkey production, putting out 15.1 million gobblers, and most of those coming from nearby Dubois County, followed by Daviess, Martin and Greene Counties.

Indiana also produces 2% of the nation's green beans, although how much mushroom soup and fried onions we make is anyone's guess.

Indiana also has 1.6% of the nation's sweet corn production, 495 pumpkin farms, but hardly any spuds, yams or cranberries.

And, since it's a day of giving thanks, it also is a day for giving help, and more than 25% of the help Hoosiers give every year goes to helping out for Thanksgiving.
