ISP On The Hunt For "Turkeys" On Thanksgiving Roadways

Last updated on Wednesday, November 19, 2008

(UNDATED) - You may be taking a long weekend next week for your Turkey Day festivities, but there’s one group of people who will certainly be on the clock, probably earning overtime…the Indiana State Police.

Police say they will be on increased patrol during the Thanksgiving weekend looking for drunk drivers, seat belt violations, and reckless drivers.

And to make sure you don't wind up helping pay for that overtime, or worse, hurting yourself or others, state police have offered a number of safe driving tips for the weekend.

Make sure you're well rested before you hit the road, as a fatigued driving is dangerous, stay sober or get a designated driver, keep your distance from other cars, especially since they my be drunk or tired, watch your speed and buckle up.

And police say if you see any unsafe driving or dangerous vehicles, call 911.
