Incumbent Congressmen Sweep Hoosier Races

Last updated on Wednesday, November 5, 2008

(UNDATED) - In Indiana’s congressional races, it was a good night to be an incumbent. As a matter of fact, it was a perfect night to be an incumbent.

All 9 of Indiana's incumbent congressmen kept their seats last night, despite well-made efforts to pick a couple of them off.

Despite a competent challenge by Zionsville Democratic attorney Nels Ackerson, Republican Congressman Steve Buyer won himself a 9th term representing Indiana's 4th District to the house in Washington, DC.

To the south of us, in what was technically the closest congressional race of the year, Democrat Baron Hill kept his seat against perennial challenger Mike Sodrel in what was still a decisive victory.

To our west, in the 8th District, Democrat Brad Ellsworth held off Republican challenger Greg Goode in a 65%-35% drubbing, and in district 6, Republican Mike Pence held his seat easily against Democrat Barry Welsh.
