(HELMSBURG) - A Brown County volunteer fire department is still in flood recovery limbo from the heavy flooding that caused severe damage to the area back in June.

The Bloomington Herald Times reports the Jackson Township Fire Department went above and beyond to save area residents from the rising waters in that part of Brown County, however, their insurance company says they didn't do enough to save their own fire station.

To make matters worse, the paper reports FEMA is telling the fire department that they cannot come to the financial rescue until everything is sorted out with their insurance company.

The paper says the building, which just went through a $15,000 dollar renovation just prior to the flooding, had sewage backup problems, and though firefighters tried to clean it up, e. coli levels are so high, the firemen were getting sick.
