Unemployment Makes Mild Drop In State, No Local Numbers Yet

Last updated on Monday, October 20, 2008

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Unemployment in Indiana has made a slight drop from August to September, according to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.

Unemployment went from 6.3% in the state in the month of August, to 6.2% in September. That keeps us below most of our neighbors, with Michigan standing at 8.7%, and Ohio at 7.2%.

Illinois and Kentucky are expected to release their numbers within the next couple days. More locally-specific numbers in Indiana, however, won't be released until sometime tomorrow.

The Columbus Day holiday has delayed the release of reports. Upon last report, Lawrence County unemployment stood at 9.2%, the 4th highest in the state.

DWD Commissioner Teresa Voors says the health care, construction and hospitality sectors saw the biggest gains in Indiana.
