Robbery Claims Bogus, But Two Still Wind Up In Jail

Last updated on Friday, October 24, 2008

(BEDFORD) - A robbery call at a downtown Bedford bar put two people in jail late last night.

Bedford Assistant Police Chief Dan Kirk tells WBIW News a man called police from the Ye Olde Downtown Tavern last night saying a woman tried to rob him.

He gave police a description of the car the woman left in and when police arrived, they found the car, but found no claim to a robbery.

Kirk says all that really happened was the woman, 22-year-old Shanon Hardin, allegedly demanded money and was rebuffed by the man.

However, her driver, 27-year-old Travis Barlow of Scottsburg, was found to be driving drunk, with expired license plates, with an open alcohol container in the car while being a lifetime habitual traffic violator.

He was arrested on all those charges and Hardin was taken in for public intoxication.
