IU Professors Examine Effect Of Tourism Industry In Orange County

Last updated on Tuesday, October 28, 2008

(BLOOMINGTON) - Researchers at Indiana University in Bloomington are studying the effects the tourism industry has had in Orange County, and what effect it may have in the upcoming months where economic conditions are expected to be rough.

Assistant Professors Shu Cole and Charles Chancellor at the IU Department of Recreation, Park and Tourism Studies say that with harder economic times, comes less local enthusiasm for both the tourist industry and tourists themselves.

However, Chancellor conducted surveys in Orange County, primarily in French Lick and West Baden, and found locals were happy with the developments so long as they stay locally focused in hiring and purchasing, and felt the negative side effects such as crime and traffic didn't seem to really affect them.
