(NEWBERN) - Fire officials remain on the scene of a large house fire at the home of two Bartholomew County officials that left one person dead.

County Sheriff Mark Gorbett says the fire was at the home of Bartholomew County Auditor Nancy McKinney and former three-term Sheriff Jimmie McKinney.

The fire started about 3:00am at the couple's home, north of Newbern. Sheriff Mark Gorbett says they're treating it as a crime scene, but do not suspect foul play.

There's one confirmed fatality however the body has not been identified. Nancy and Jimmie McKinney have not been accounted for and crews are back at the scene searching for evidence and possibly another victim.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
