(COLUMBUS) - Bartholomew County residents say goodbye today to two well known public servants.

Former Sheriff Jimmie McKinney and his wife County Auditor Nancy McKinney died in a house fire last week.

70-year-old Jimmie McKinney was the longest serving officer in the Sheriff's Department. He served as Sheriff from 1971 to 1978 and completed a third term in 1986. Nancy was in the middle of her second term as County Auditor.

Fire investigators ruled the fire accidental. The funeral is scheduled for 1:00pm at Community Church of Columbus.

A funeral procession will briefly stop at the Sheriff's office and the County Government Building to honor the service of the couple.

The burial will follow at Garland Brook Cemetery in Columbus.
