Water, Sewer Rates Rise, Trash Could Be Next

Last updated on Wednesday, September 10, 2008

(BEDFORD) - Bedfordites can prepare to flush a little more money down the drain…literally.

The City Council of Bedford raised various rates and fees on the city's water and sewer service during their hearing and meeting last night.

Water and sewer taps will climb to $800 each, from a previous $600 for water and $550 for sewer.

Cancelled check fees will jump $5 to $25 overall.

Water rates will go up an average 12%, and sewer fees will go up too. Treatment fees are up to $4.88 per 1,000 gallons, and minimum fees are now $8.29, previously $6.05.

The next step for Bedford City Council members in terms of city services will be throwing more money into the trash.

A monthly trash fee was proposed and achieved first passage, but before that can finally happen, a public hearing must come before the City Council can vote on it.
