Updates On Area Power Outages

Last updated on Tuesday, September 16, 2008

(UNDATED) - The lights are still out for a large number of area residents. Daviess-Martin County REMC says they have 7 crews on the ground restoring about 300 powerless homes.

Jackson County REMC says they had about 3,100 without power as of last night, and they also are expecting work to continue through the weekend.

Duke Energy reports more than 1,000 people in Lawrence County being in the dark still this afternoon, along with about 4,000 in Jackson County, 6,000 in Monroe and about 900 in Orange.

Duke Energy officials say this is the largest storm from a damage standpoint the company has ever had to deal with, and that some customers in Lawrence County could be out of power through Saturday.

Duke's Steve Bahr tells WBIW News they have a veritable army in the field restoring power with about 500 line workers from the Carolinas and another 60 more due in tomorrow.

Bedford, Bloomington and Seymour were some of the areas hardest hit in duke's service area.
