(BLOOMINGTON) - Bloomington police have two teenagers in custody for what they are calling a gang initiation that resulted in the beating of a 15-year-old.

Bloomington police say 18-year-old Juston Young and another 17-year-old male assaulted a 15-year-old boy in what they call an initiation incident for the Chicago-based Vice Lords street gang.

When police interviewed the two, they denied anything happened, but officers reportedly noticed scrapes on the knuckles of the 17-year-old, and drops of blood on Young's pants, and said the younger one wore a belt buckle with 5-points up, which is a symbol of the Vice Lords.

The mother of the victim then told police she had learned her son was being initiated into the gang, which the 15-year-old would then fess up to. Police then re-interviewed the suspects and each then claimed innocence while blaming the other.

Both were taken into custody; Young for gang activity and recruitment of a minor, the 17-year-old for juvenile charges of gang activity and recruitment as well as battery.
