State Police Pursue Kentucky Man Until Fiery Wreck

Last updated on Monday, September 15, 2008

(CANNELTON) - A Perry County police pursuit ended with a Kentucky man in the hospital and a truck on fire.

Early Sunday morning, Indiana State Police went to pull over a black pickup for not having a license plate near Cannelton, however the driver, 32-year-old James Wheatley of Hawesville, Kentucky, took off, leading police on a chase that would lose control a couple times, fly through state highways and city streets, include one attempt at possibly ramming officers, and, after driving through Tell City, Wheatley topped a hill, lost control, hit a tree and caught fire.

Officers got Wheatley out of the truck and airlifted to St. Mary's Medical Center in Evansville.

Wheatley will be facing a number of charges once he's back on his feet.
