(BLOOMINGTON) - IU students needn’t worry about their cell phones going off or dangerous looking e-mails landing in their inbox this week.
Indiana University has announced they will be conducting a test of their IU-Notify system, which is intended to alert students, faculty and staff of any sort of emergency situation on the 39,000 student Bloomington campus.
This coming Friday around noon, IU-Notify will be tested, sending text messages to cell phones, voice messages to office, local, home and other phones, and send e-mails to university and other registered addresses. The test will be conducted in conjunction with the monthly test of the school's outdoor warning system.
Critical Incident Communications Team Coordinator Kirk White says this will be the first full-scale test of the recently implemented IU-Notify system.
The test Friday will be louder than in the past because two new sirens have been added to campus -- one on top of Foster Quad and the other atop the Indiana Memorial Union. Another siren will be added this fall for a total of six units on campus.
