(BEDFORD) - Hurricane Gustav may have an impact on the weather here in South Central Indiana, however, despite how that may sound, it could be a good thing.
Meteorologists at the National Weather Service in Indianapolis say Gustav will most likely feed a cold front that's working its way through the central plains right now, which will bring rain here to the Bedford and surrounding areas, but only on a peripheral level.
NWS Meteorologist Steve Haines tells WBIW News he estimates Gustav will cut a path up the Mississippi River and through the middle of Illinois, which could have an impact on our western neighbor in the form of heavy rains.
However, Haines says we would be on the edge of that activity, and since things are currently so dry at the moment, it may do little more than put some color in your lawn, though there is always the chance of a locally heavy deluge like the one Bloomington saw at the beginning of June that destroyed the turf of Memorial Stadium and left knee-high water downtown.
This may sound reminiscent of Hurricane Frances, the 2004 storm that caused havoc from landfall in the Florida Panhandle all the way to Quebec in Canada, however, Haines says Gustav just doesn't have that kind of energy.
