(AVOCA) - Another day, another major accident at the Avoca light on IN-37.
This time, Friday afternoon, right around 2:00pm, state police shut down southbound IN-37 at IN-54, due to a tractor-trailer wreck that spilled around 21 tons of aluminum ingots all over the road.
State police investigators say 47-year-old Ernest Meadows of Sweetwater, Tennessee was driving his Freightliner semi southbound when he approached the red light at IN-54 too hot, and his load of aluminum, which apparently wasn't secured properly, shifted and was tossed from the trailer.
No one was injured in the accident, however, IN-37 was shut down for more than 4 hours.
State Police Sgt. Curt Durnil says each aluminum ingot, which are generally used to make cans, weighs about 1,500 pounds.
