Phantom Regiment Makes Like Spartacus And Conquers DCI

Last updated on Monday, August 11, 2008

(BLOOMINGTON) - In the absolute smallest margin of victory in the history of Drum Corps International, the Phantom Regiment of Rockford, Illinois took top honors in the DCI World Championships in Bloomington over the weekend.

The Regiment, with their rendition of Aram Khachaturian's Spartacus, beat the incumbent champion Blue Devils of Concord, California, get this, 98.125 to 98.1. That's a spread of one quarter of one tenth of a point.

Tens of thousands of people filed into Memorial Stadium in Bloomington expecting either of the perennial champions, the Blue Devils or the Cavailers, to take top honors, which makes the Phantom Regiment's win all the more unique.

This is only the Regiment's second win in the corps' history.

Next year, look for the DCI Championships to head back to their new home for the next 10 years, Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
