(UNDATED) - If you’re watching TV one day, and it goes to snow on all channels, don’t worry, it’s not a massive failure or an alien invasion, it’s just the government.
As part of the Federal Communications Commission effort to switch all over-the-air television broadcasting from analog to digital by February 17th of next year, FCC officials will be visiting various TV market cities for a soft-run, where they will shut off all analog TV signals for a minute or two, and then show a phone number and web address for those who need to get digital receivers.
This will only affect viewers who use bunny ears or rooftop antennas, and not cable or satellite subscribers.
The very first shutoffs will occur next week in Anchorage and Fairbanks, Alaska, but FCC officials will do the same in the Indianapolis, South Bend, Elkhart and Ft. Wayne areas as well, though dates have not been set for the Indiana visits.
Lousiville, Terre Haute and Evansville stations will not be affected.
