(BLOOMINGTON) - Bloomington police have ruled the death of a man found near a west side grocery store a homicide.

Bloomington Police Department Captain Joe Qualters says 51-year-old William F. Cline died of blunt force trauma early Thursday morning.

Police say cline got into a physical altercation with 42-year-old John Cornett in a homeless camp behind the Marsh grocery store on 3rd Street west of IN-37, and Cornett alleges cline cut his face with a broken bottle, and in return, he pushed Cline down and that was it.

Cornett had cuts on his face from the altercation, and Cline showed what appeared to be stab wounds to his person, but the autopsy, completed Friday, showed blunt force trauma as the cause of death, with internal injuries to his torso and arms.

Cornett was taken to Bloomington Hospital for his injuries and other medical issues unrelated to the incident, and then to Monroe County jail on a parole violation charge, where he remains held at least until formal charges are decided on in the Cline death.
