(SEYMOUR) - Jackson County is giving away the remains of an 19th century covered bridge that collapsed into the East Fork White River so that a coalition of groups can turn it into a state park's new centerpiece.

County commissioners voted Tuesday to give the remnants of the 139-year-old Bell Ford Bridge to the groups, which want to restore the span and erect it over Fall Creek in Indianapolis' Fort Benjamin Harrison State Park.

The bridge was added to the national register of historic places in 2005. It was built in 1869 and is made of wood and iron.
