Last updated on Tuesday, July 1, 2008

(BEDFORD) - Lawrence County Coroner John Sherrill has released details of the death of the Mitchell man found hanged in the Lawrence County Jail Sunday.

In the report, released this morning, Sherrill says 38-year-old Victor Arana of Mitchell, who was incarcerated in the Lawrence County Security Center as of May 1st of this year, committed suicide via hanging Sunday morning at the jail.

Sherrill says Arana's body was found at 6:55am Sunday morning during a staff shift change, hanging in the common area in the upper level of Cell Block J.

Staff from the Lawrence County jail as well as arriving medical personnel attempted to revive Arana, however, to no avail. Sherrill pronounced Arana dead on the scene.

Arana's body was taken to the Dunn Memorial Hospital morgue where an autopsy was performed.

Sherrill, in his release, said the decision was preplanned and premeditated, consisted with suicide.

Arana was convicted of drunk driving and being a habitual traffic offender and was scheduled for release in July of 2009.
