(BLOOMINGTON) - State police in the Bloomington District have identified a couple causes of accidents in the area, and will now be gunning for them.

The Bloomington Post's Sgt. Curt Durnil says troopers in the 5-county district will be looking for failure to yield, following too closely and driving too fast for conditions violations.

This means those who fail to yield the right-of-way will be under the microscope, as will those who don't allow at least 2-seconds of distance between themselves and the car in front of them.

Additionally, when it comes to driving too fast for conditions, if officers determine that conditions don't allow a safe driver to even go the speed limit, you could be ticketed even if you're doing 55 in a 55 zone, for example.

The Bloomington District covers Lawrence, Monroe, Owen, Greene and Brown Counties.

This announcement comes after 5 of the area's 8 fatal accidents this month have happened within the Bloomington District's boundaries.
