Bikers Injured In Accidents During ABATE Boogie Weekend

Last updated on Monday, July 21, 2008

(BEDFORD) - This past weekend’s ABATE Boogie saw plenty of fun, heat and bikers in Springville. However, the increased biker traffic also saw a few bikers boogie on down to the hospital after getting into accidents.

On Thursday, the first day of the boogie alone, two Harley riders wound up in the hospital with injuries within about 20 minutes of each other. Shortly before 6:00pm Thursday, 54-year-old Diana Morrison of Sandborne, Indiana was thrown from her bike when she ran into a Dodge that crossed into her lane and collided with her head-on.

According to Lawrence County reports, 54-year-old Daniel Maple of Greenwood looked down to read a text message he'd received when he crossed the centerline. Morrison was unconscious when officers arrived, and showed severe bleeding from her upper arm.

About 20 minutes after that wreck, two Harley riders collided on Sieboldt Quarry Road sending 47-year-old Paula Street, a passenger on one of the bikes, to the hospital with a fracture to her lower leg.

No alcohol was involved with either accident nor were any citations listed.
