Alleged Battery Victims Reveal Assailant's Pot Plants To Officers

Last updated on Tuesday, July 8, 2008

(BLOOMINGTON) - Tip for the day, never get into a fight and chuck a crowbar at a person who says he knows you have marijuana growing in your house.

Monroe County deputies were called to a report of a fight in progress on Vernal Pike in Bloomington, when one of the victims told police 33-year-old Bennett Everitt threatened them with a crowbar after they accused him of trying to break into their place, and then said Everitt allegedly threw the crowbar at them hitting one of the men.

When officers arrived, they found everyone still there, and though the victims told police they didn't want to file charges on Everitt for the alleged battery, they did mention they knew of a marijuana growing operation in Everitt's trailer.

Officers were reportedly given a detailed description of everything including the location of the plants inside, and so officers retrieved a search warrant. Upon entrance, they found 70 small pot plants and 18 larger ones as well as lamps, fans and air filters.

Everitt was then taken into custody on felony possession and maintaining a common nuisance charges and taken to Monroe County jail.
