Accident Causes Power Transformer To Fall On Roof

Last updated on Tuesday, July 29, 2008

(BEDFORD) - An accident on Ditney Ridge Road could have sparked some major problems had it not been for some help from the power company.

Lawrence County police say, yesterday morning, 77-year-old Edith Harris was driving along Ditney Ridge a mile east of Leesville Road when she reached down to get a fallen soda bottle.

When she did this, she ran her full-size Chevy sedan into a power pole, causing a transformer to fall on top of the vehicle.

Harris was trapped in the vehicle until the utility workers could get there to shut off power and remove the transformer from the roof, but her passenger and 8-year-old grandson, Dakota Myers, climbed out the driver's side window.

Harris suffered a contusion to her head and Myers showed some facial bleeding and both were taken to the hospital by a private vehicle.

No citations were issued.
