(LAKE DELTON, WI) - Imagine if one of the most notable natural attractions disappeared from West Baden. Perhaps the sulphur springs or something similar.
Or perhaps learning Patoka Lake was now just a hole in the ground. Well, that's what happened to the residents of Lake Delton, Wisconsin yesterday. Some of you may know Lake Delton from visiting it's next door neighbor, the Wisconsin Dells, a well known theme and amusement park "Mecca" in the Midwest.
Due to this weeks heavy rains and flooding, Lake Delton burst its banks and flowed into the Wisconsin River, taking about 5 homes and a section of highway with it, and leaving little more than a muddy lake bed and thousands of dead fish.
According to a report published in the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, even the best case scenario doesn't have the lake returning before the end of the year, since the massive land shift caused the creek that fed Lake Delton to change course as well.
Here closer to home, Patoka Lake isn't even threatened, and the Army Corps of Engineers reports Lake Monroe, though receiving plenty of flood water and drainage, is steady and only sitting at 74% of capacity.
