IU May Play Opener At "Memorial Swamp"

Last updated on Tuesday, June 10, 2008

(BLOOMINGTON) - Depending on what happens between now and when the Hoosier football squad opens season august 30th, the IU-Western Kentucky home opener may be played at…Memorial Swamp.

The Indiana University football field has seen heavy damage, especially to the field itself, from the heavy rains and flooding from the weekend and late last week.

Almost the entire south half of the field is lumpy, there are ditches and sinkholes, and officials still don't know what it will cost to repair.

And, if the August 30th deadline doesn't make crews sweat, there's also the Drum Corps International championships that were moved to Bloomington's Memorial Stadium from Indianapolis since Lucas Oil Stadium won't be complete before then, and that's in the earlier part of August, and has the potential to draw in more than 30,000 fans.
