(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels has joined with Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich, Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle and Iowa Governor Chet Culver in asking President Bush to reduce the amount state and local governments have to reimburse the federal government for assisting in the current flooding emergencies, which are still playing themselves out in some areas, including Indiana.
Daniels, Blagojevich, Doyle and Culver have all asked the 75%-25% split of federal versus local assistance be reduced to 90%-10%, saying that it would levy an extra burden on state and local coffers.
Here in Indiana, we still have roads flooded out, especially in Greene County, and in Illinois and Iowa, as well as Missouri, the Mississippi River has breached its banks and, in some areas, levies.
