Cummins To Lay Off 125

Last updated on Monday, June 2, 2008

(COLUMBUS) - Columbus based Cummins, Inc. has announced they will be temporarily laying off 125 workers at their midrange engine plant in Bartholomew County.

Company officials say this is due to decreased demand for the Dodge Ram Heavy Duty pickup trucks, which use Cummins 6-cylinder diesel engines.

The plant, which is in Walesboro, Indiana, is the exclusive producer of the Dodge engines, and Chrysler is suspending production of the heavy duty Rams until the middle of August, when production of the 2009 model year commences.
