(AVOCA) - A young driver’s reach for a bag in her vehicle caused a head-on accident in Avoca leaving a Sullivan, Indiana woman dead.

Lawrence County Sheriff's reports say 16-year-old Kristina Clouse of Bedford was traveling eastbound on IN-54 in her pickup with two other people in the cab when, according to a passenger, she reached down for a "bag of some sorts" causing her to cross the center line and run head-on at highway speeds into a car driven by 19-year-old Mitchell Johnson of Sullivan.

Of the 6 people involved in either vehicle, 5 survived, most with serious, incapacitating injuries. Emergency helicopters were called to the scene to rush injured parties for medical treatment.

37-year-old Troylina Lott of Sullivan, the front seat passenger in the second vehicle, was killed as the result of serious internal injuries.

30-year-old Don Mosteller of Shelburn, Indiana, who was in the back seat of the same car, was taken by ambulance for a fracture to his hip area.

Johnson, the driver of that vehicle, suffered only minor bleeding to his lower leg. Johnson was also cited for driving without insurance coverage and with a suspended license.

Clouse, the driver of the first vehicle was incapacitated with bleeding from her lower abdomen or pelvis area.

One passenger, 15-year-old James Inman II of Bedford was incapacitated with internal head injuries.

8-year-old Trevon Roberts of Springville, who was sitting in the center seat, suffered internal injuries throughout his body.

More information to come as it avails itself.
