Monroe Deputy Makes Two Strange Arrests In One Day

Last updated on Tuesday, May 13, 2008

(BLOOMINGTON) - One Monroe County officer made two strange arrests in one day.

Monroe County reports say Sgt. Barb Beland was patrolling through the lot of a Circle K on Leonard Springs Road shortly after 1:00 Saturday morning when she saw a car start to pull out of a spot, see her, and pull back in.

Right after, she saw another man walk out of the store with a case of beer in hand, see her cruiser, and stop dead in his tracks, just in time for the store owner to come out and yell at him for not paying for the beer.

The driver, 19-year-old Kyle Bailey of Bloomington was not arrested, but the alleged thief, 20-year-old Eric Mischler, blew a .13% on a breath test and was arrested for felony theft and misdemeanor illegal consumption.

Then, a bit after 10:30 Saturday night, Sgt. Beland responded to a battery call on North Smith Pike to the home of Richard and Stacey Young.

Both people showed signs of injury and intoxication.

Sgt. Beland would determine they both got drunk and got into a fight and beat on each other.

Stacey would have to go to Bloomington Hospital for stitches to her mouth. Both would be arrested on misdemeanor battery charges.
