(BLOOMINGTON) - Indiana DNR officials are warning Memorial Day weekenders planning on heading for Lake Monroe to keep out of the water.

DNR officials are warning of dangerous conditions along the highly expanded shorelines of the lake and Paynetown Park, since water levels are more than 15 feet above normal. The problem, they say, is with people wading into the water.

What can happen is, since the water looks like it gradually slopes up the shores like any beach would, that can be deceptive since there could be a steep drop-off that can sneak up on you.

In all, all beaches at Paynetown are flooded, as are a number of picnic and camping sites.

The best advice, really, is to just grill out in the back yard and turn on the sprinkler.
