Deputy Arrests Driver After Hitting Parked Cars, Picking Fights

(BLOOMINGTON) - Early yesterday morning, an off duty Monroe County Sheriff’s deputy had to deal with an allegedly drunk driver who caused a bit of mayhem in a Bloomington trailer park.

Chief Deputy Scott Mellinger says shortly after midnight yesterday, an off duty deputy took a call to the 4000 block of Vernal Pike since other officers were busy, and arrived to find an empty vehicle and a complainant who said the driver had been driving recklessly through the park and tried to pick a fight with residents to were complaining.

The driver, 26-year-old John Fender, was found hiding inside the trailer of a Robert Cox and, according to reports, was visibly intoxicated.

Several witnesses told the officer Fender had hit two parked vehicles in the park and the damage is still under investigation.

However, Fender was lodged in the Monroe County jail on a felony count of driving while intoxicated with a prior, and may face further charges.
