(BEDFORD) - Rumors are building up again about the merger between Dunn Memorial Hospital and Bedford Regional Medical Center.
Rumors are emerging about BRMC's parent company, Clarian, building a new hospital facility within 5 years in Bedford pending a successful merger between the two medical organizations, and an even more ominous rumor is also stirring that Dunn Hospital physicians would walk out should an agreement not be reached by the end of may.
Randy Young at Dunn Memorial Hospital says talks continue between the two medical facilities regarding a merger.
However, Young has also said that there are no concrete plans to develop a new hospital until discussions proceed to such a point.
When asked about the rumors of doctors walking out at Dunn, however, Young reported having not heard any such talk within the building, and Dunn's Chief of Staff, Dr. Deborah Craton, told WBIW News this morning that, though the doctors are very much in favor of the merger, the medical staff would, "Not walk out on the patients or on Dunn Hospital."
However, Dr. Craton would confirm that talks between the hospitals were at a, "critical junction."
Officials from Bedford Regional Medical Center, it's parent company, Clarian, and members of the Lawrence County Council who would have to approve such a merger since Dunn is county owned, were not available for comment by press time.
