(WEST BADEN SPRINGS) - If of you are, by any stroke of sheer luck and fantastic health, old enough to remember what it was like when the Chicago Cubs held spring training in West Baden and French Lick, we're talking the first time, well, you can, in a way, relive those days in a couple weeks.
The Vintage Base Ball Association will be holding an exhibition double-header April 26th at the baseball field at west Baden Springs Hotel.
The Chicago Cubs first used that field for spring training from 1906 to 1911, and now the Cincinnati Buckeyes and the Indianapolis Blue Jays will be holding a pair of games there. The two teams are recreations of original teams that existed as late as 1900, and will be playing in vintage style.
What does that mean?
Well, for one, we're talking "base ball" being two separate words, the ballers, as they were called, wearing knickerbockers, and violations of etiquette garnering sometimes more serious penalties than violations of rules.
