Student Busted On Drug Charges In Bloomington

Last updated on Friday, April 18, 2008

(BLOOMINGTON) - Bloomington police have arrested one man on drug charges when he came in to report a robbery.

Bloomington's Sgt. Jeff Canada tells WBIW News 30-year-old Jason Purnell came into the department to report a burglary at his 6th Street apartment, and $4,000 cash missing. Canada says Purnell reported the cash was from "student loans."

When officers checked on things, they realized Purnell was wanted in Illinois for possession of a controlled substance and took him into custody. Then, when officers checked his backpack, Canada says they found a hypodermic needle and a spoon with residue that tested positive for heroin.

Purnell was taken to Monroe County Jail and, besides the Illinois warrant, he was charged with possession of a narcotic drug within 1,000 feet of a park, and possession of a hypodermic needle.
